Jammu, October 6:

Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Congress, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peoples Conference (PC) strongly condemned the gruesome killing of teachers belonging to minority community by terrorists in Srinagar Government School.

BJP J&K Union Territory (UT) president Ravinder Raina has termed the killing of teachers as barbaric and lashed out at Pakistan for continued support to the terrorists in Kashmir.

“The killing is barbaric and exposes the Pakistani agenda to create violence and fear among the people of J&K. Strong measures will be taken against the culprits and supporters of terrorists”, Raina said.

Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah too condemned the killing of innocents.

“Shocking news coming in again from Srinagar. Another set of targeted killings, this time of two teachers in a Govt school in Idgah area of the city. Words of condemnation are not enough for this inhuman act of terror but I pray for the souls of the deceased to rest in peace”, Omar wrote on micro-blogging site, Twitter.

All India Congress Committee (AICC) spokesperson Charan Singh Sapra Sapra has strongly condemned the continued killing of innocent civilians in Valley and termed the series of targeted and selective killings in Kashmir directly under Home Ministry, as very serious issue

Addressing a press conference, Sapra blamed the central government for the rise in violence, termed it as a failure of the Union Home Ministry which directly deals with the law and order in the UT of J&K.

“Congress and the entire country is anguished by the killings and culprits should be identified and dealt with sternly. Selective and targeted killings especially of Pandits in the recent past should be condemned. Why the Govt. has failed to ensure the safety and security of the innocent citizens under the UT regime directly under Centre Gov”, Sapra questioned.

Meanwhile, former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has also condemned the killings. “Disturbing to see the deteriorating situation in Kashmir where a minuscule minority is the latest target. The government of India’s claims of building a Naya Kashmir has actually turned it into a hellhole. Its sole interest is to use Kashmir as a milch cow for its electoral interests,” Mufti tweeted, quoting a media report on teachers’ killing.

Mayor of Srinagar, Junaid Azim Mattum also expressed his condolences over the killing.

“Heartbroken devastated and shattered by the news of the brutal killing of two school teachers at a school in Eidgah. No words can express my anger and anguish. My heart goes out to their families. I stand by them in this hour of grief and trauma. Inconsolable tragedy!” Junaid tweeted.

Earlier on Wednesday, a street hawker was also shot dead by terrorists in Srinagar. The incident took place near Madina Chowk, Lalbazar in Srinagar where terrorists fired upon the victim Virender Paswan.

Peoples Conference president Sajad Gani Lone has also condemned the killing of two teachers at Srinagar’s old city, terming such acts of violence as sheer cowardice, inhuman, and barbaric.

Lone said that those behind such action have no religion and such acts of terror are only plunging Kashmir into a deep, dreadful, and unending cycle of perturbation. Lone said that he himself has been the victim of terror and could understand the excruciating saga the families of the two teachers have been thrown into.

He added that it is high time for Kashmir to wake up in unison against such mindless acts and stigmatize violence in all its forms and manifestations.

“Two teachers shot dead. It is important to understand that terrorists have no religion. Muslims have been killed too. I personally had a killing in my family. This is a lunatic fringe which is a curse for Kashmir,” Lone tweeted on his Twitter handle on Thursday.
