“Need to strive for Kashmir issue, but path would not be an easy”

Jammu Express News

Jammu, Oct 18: The Peoples Democratic Party leader and former chief minister Mehbooba walked free into “Azaadi’ after her detention was revoked on Oct 13 after Supreme Court quizzed the government about the length of her detention.

This is being seen as a shot in the arm to the umbrella organisation of “Gupkar Declaration” who were awaiting her release to reinvent strategies for a fight againt India for revocation of Art 370.

However amidst the buzz, a grapevine ripes setting off speculations about any official gelling of rivals, the --Abdullahs and the Muftis—coming under one umbrella with a common minimum programme (CMP) to take ahead the agenda of ‘Gupkar Declaration’.

“Both are extremely at opposite poles in their respective regional political outlook and have different menus in a platter for Kashmir, though Jammu does not exist in their concern. The joint effort for a political mandate from Centre through Gupkar Declaration is partially unlikely to mature,” said a political analyst from the valley close to the developments in both NC and PDP adding, their demand for restoring Article 370 is at variance with the central government's assurance that Jammu and Kashmir may get back its statehood status when normalcy returns.

The political historian and former HoD History and BJP leader Hari Om put his thoughts through the Jammu point of view saying that the league of men against India should resign.

“Gupkar Muslim League again insults its Jammu province supporters, will meet today to decide a modus operandi to accelerate subversive and break-Bharat activities. Will these workers of Farooq, Omar, Mehbooba, GA Mir, Line, Khalda Shah resign today itself and fight for separate Jammu State? They must,” he dared.

The Kashmir leadership that vowed to join hands to become signatories to “Gupkar Declaration” on August 4, a day before Mehbooba’s detention, though holds its undertaking tight to move ahead with the agenda to press Government of India in restoring statehood and rescinding the removal of Art 370, it will, however, depend on the unanimous course adopted by NC-PDP.

How the ‘hapless Chinese Raga’ sung by Farooq a few days ago on Art 370 and immediate release statement of Mehbooba that “we need to strive for Kashmir issue, but the path would not be an easy”, could be construed to its tangible sense, a few political analysts tried to put them through their perspective.

They say with all set in motion, JK will soon see the political empowerment of UT through elections as soon delimitation process gets over. Gupkar Declaration is only a ‘snake charming’ spectacle for the voters in Kashmir, who are unlikely to buy the ticket for. For Jammu, it always remains an open arena for political wrestling.

“BJP‘s national agenda is to nip Congrees in the bud. At home, the road to political ascends for Mehbooba is steep and thorny at present. She has lost sheen and charisma in PDP. NC is smartly towing BJP’s line at Centre and has to tread a very cautious line. And the political history of JK has a clear lineage of making governments in coalition with one at Centre,” said a political expert.
