Growing resentment among people against Govt. for lack of infra development

Jammu, November 2:

Considered as citadel of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP), Old city in Jammu presents a picture of utter neglect and apathy when it comes to civic infrastructure.

Making mockery of the tall claims of BJP-led Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) and much hyped Swaach Bharat Abhiyan (SBA) old city sans blacktopped roads, proper drains and no effort has been made to restore the heritage image of city, power centre of erstwhile Dogra kings.

There is growing resentment among the people against administration as despite pleas to officials no step is being taken improve the basic civic infra.

It is pertinent to mention here that Jammu East, is power centre of BJP and since 2008 and 2014 Assembly Elections conducted in erstwhile J&K State, BJP had won with overwhelming majority. However no developmental projects to beautify or improve road network or beautify the city has been taken.

Even a visit to any of the markets, which is commercial centre of Jammu and Kashmir, one feel dejected by the condition of roads and other basic infrastructure.

Further there is grave threat to the health of the people as sewerage alongwith solid waste is flowing on the road as drains remains blocked despite claims made by JMC that a special drive has been launched across the city to maintain sanitation.

“The area was supposed to be model commercial area of temple city but failure of civic authorities to maintain sanitation of the lanes and bylanes plus delay in improving infrastructure has created unhealthy conditions”, said a Rajat Abrol local resident of Pacca Danga.

Heaps of garbage, potholed road, stagnant water, blocked drains tells the tale of indifferent attitude of authorities towards this place created exclusively for the office space and high end shoppers. Looking at the plight of the area, there is no coordination between government departments.

In absence of required parking lots and no major expansion of road infrastructure in past two decades, especially in Jammu, traffic situation in city of temples has become chaotic and worsening with each passing day.
